John B. Benton, Jr., was born in Minden, Louisiana, on December 21, 1924. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Tulane University in 1947, and his Juris Doctor degree from Louisiana State University in 1951. Mr. Benton served as Assistant District Attorney for the 26th Judicial District from 1953-1970 and as District Attorney in 1971.
He served as Vice President of the Webster Parish Bar Association in 1975 and1976, and as President from 1976-1978. John also served as a Member of the House of Delegates to the Louisiana State Bar Association from 1975-1983. Mr. Benton also served in the United States Navy as an LTJG from 1943-1946.
During his practice, Mr. Benton was a litigator, serving clients in both civil and criminal matters. Mr. Benton also had an extensive real estate practice. He still serves as a board of director for the Minden Building and Loan Association.
